We believe that teaching through play-centred activities can help children discover the innate nobility of all humanity. We believe that yoga and a camp atmosphere is a place where character can and should be developed. Our teachers are trained to recognize teachable moments and inspire moral development.
— Denise Davis-Gains

Through yoga, children learn how to relax and interact in a nurturing and non-competitive environment. Yoga practice also increases flexibility, strength and muscle tone and helps children to develop space orientation, body awareness, balance and a sense of harmony. Playful kids yoga classes mix games and songs with the physical postures.

Yoga helps kids get in touch with their bodies, strengthen and relax their muscles, and develop coordination, focus, and confidence. We will practice kid-style asana (postures) and pranayama (breathing) in a playful, supportive, and safe environment. Through experiential games we introduce the yamas (how to treat others) and the niyamas (how to treat yourself), deepening a child’s sense of respect and awareness. Yoga is universal! It’s not dogmatic – just healthy fun!

Yoga let's our soul shine! Practicing yoga from a young age has been known to instil a healthy sense of self confidence and willingness to explore the world.  We hope that you will join us at Atlas Studio.

Testimonials

“…how did you get them to pay attention for so long?” Leslie Dempsy, grade 5 teacher

“They couldn’t wait to get back. Everyone was dressed and out the door before I had my shoes on today. They were like, come-on mom, let’s go, we are going to be late for yoga! That never happens. Thank you for seeing my children.” Margaret, mother of 3 children

“Yoga, I love yoga!” Kimberly, age 3

“My daughter did yoga with us as an 8 year old, she felt comfortable, accepted and it brought her out of her introversion. I am proud to say that we are signing up for yoga teacher training together - we can’t wait to spend more time with you and your method. Even if we never teach, we both just want to dive deep into the practice and embody this tradition that you so lovingly share.” long time yoga participants

“Dear Mrs. Gains, my mother made me write this letter. I wanted you to know that I can sleep now. When I started yoga I could not sleep. I was always thinking of something and feeling like I could not sleep. The things that you taught me, breathing and visualizing, I did them at night and now I can sleep. It has made me a better student. My teacher yells at me less and says that I am concentrating better in class. I am getting better grades this year. My mother is very proud of me. I am very happy. Thank you for teaching me how to sleep.” Alex, 8 year old professional figure skater

Love Working with Children?

Me too. If you had asked me in my 20’s if I wanted to be a mother or work with children, I might have looked at you sideways and not really known how to respond. I just didn’t think about it. Then I had my first children and I fell in love with the littles. I love all the stages (5 kids, 7 grandchildren and lots of nieces and nephews). What really surprised me the most though was how much I love working with children in general. It is such a blessing. If you already know that you passion is to work with children, we hope that you will consider doing your Children’s Yoga Teacher Training with us.
